As Halloween approaches, the butterflies start to flutter, the anxiety creeps in, and the stress level soars through the roof. Nothing signifies just how close we are to release (giggity) like the great cover reveal. Well, I guess it’s technically the game menu screen. Any way, this design is based on the very same cover for the original story I created nearly six years ago to the day. I wasn’t sure about how much I wanted to retain, but I ended up keeping everything intact, for the most part. Name and all. The design itself is mostly a minor cosmetic update. Brighter reds in the blood, more realistic knife, etc. The little details. Don’t tell my wife that though. She put a lot of work into this. While there’s still a couple days to go for the visual novel, the ebook version of The Rave: Lucky Number 13 is available on Amazon. I published it under my Blake Jeckel alter ego, mainly, because I didn’t have a lot of faith in. I honestly think this...

About half way through seems like just the right time for a cheap plug. It’s the reason we’re here. The Rave! I wrote this little horror story about six years ago. My very first one, too. I was so unsure about it that I had to attach a pen name to it … cause it sucked! However, the story itself, the concept, the premise, is something I think has potential, so I decided to re-animate it in the form of a visual novel. This form of visual storytelling encourages interaction by allowing readers to get involved and make choices at various points, which is why...

31 Days of Horror: Why We Love Horror

At the time of this post, I’m in the process of gorging on horror movies. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve watched well over one hundred flicks during this two-month stretch. I’m a red dead horror head. In fact, a good 90 percent of the programming my wife and I watch together falls in the horror category. Whether it’s feature-length movies like IT or TV shows such as The Walking Dead, our ideal of spending time together usually consists of soaking up viewing material from this immensely popular and controversial genre. So why do I love horror so much? Hmmm, it’s to hard say really. A know-it therapist type might draw on my violent past. I have, after all, shamefully committed some atrocities that would rattle the most hardened of spectators. Or my morbid sense of...
